I am using the Sew What: Sew Skirts book as a guide to make an A-line skirt and am buying fabric tomorrow to begin.

It is a drawstring skirt. I'd like to add a lining, but the instructions do not state how to do so.

Would I use the same pattern to cut the same sized pieces for the lining? How would I attach the lining to the skirt? Where would I sew? And is there any special treatment I should take in attaching the lining so as not to interfere with the drawstring?

Edited:

I just realized that there is a similar post to this one already on the board. I do have one question, however. If the seam allowances are between the outer fabric and the lining, should the seams still be finished to prevent fraying?

Finishing the seam allowances and the method used would generally depend on the type of fabric you are using for your skirt/lining.

That said, for wovens, I generally either serge the edges of the fabric piece before construction OR serge the seam alloances together after sewing the seam as quick methods of finishing the seam. If you do not have a serger you could use a zig zag.

I generally only leave heavy weight knit fabric seam allowances plain---they do not need extra bulk and will not ravel.

If you are using a see through fabric, then you would need a finer seam finish, imo. HTH, ML
