Hmm. I'd be inclined to buy a pair of swim goggles, a styrofoam head with a circumferance as close my own as possible( like what they display wigs on), mark where I wanted the design lines to be on it and drape to make a pattern. I say drape as there's no sectional seaming like there is on on regular aviators headgear - most have 4- 6 gores to get shaping.
To get shaping like this with minimal seams you'd also have to use a stretch vinyl/pleather or some sort..another reason draping might be better as it's direct. As it is, you're likely to need at least some darting on the crown. The trick is to work up the muslin in a fabric that has the same behavior as your final material.
My 2 cents worth. <:)

I'd go to a military surplus store and get something like this, then modify:

thanks fruzzle!
i just bought the mask! its perfect thanks!
i'm either going to take it apart and use it like a pattern, or just cut it under the nose and go over it with the brown pleather i have, and then just make the back part, which should be much easier!
