I really want to buy some of the Die-cut appliques from KeepsakeQuilting so that I can make a baby quilt. However, I am not a quilter and have no idea as to what is the best way to attatch these to the fabric.

I was thinking some kind of fusiable, but that can't be to sturdy, can it? I have some die cuts that I used an applique stitch to attatch to the fabic, but that seems awfully bulky for what I want to use them for.

Any suggestions?

If you have a fusible web on the fabric you can just do a zig zag or even a straight stitch around the edges and not have a raveling problem. Iron the piece on and sew very close to the edge.
This is also one (one of very few) place that fusible nonwoven interfacing has a purpose. If you iron it onto the applique before you iron on the fusible web stuff it will give the applique a little pop and prevent any raveling around the edges too.

If this is for a quilt to be used (not a wall-hanging) then ideally you would fuse and also edge-finish (for example satin stitch or blanket-stitch).

When you cut your own applique, you fuse first, then trim the shape to size so the fusible is exactly at the edge. The problem with using die-cuts is there is not really any way to get the fusible exactly to the edge of the applique. If the fusible's a little small, the fabric edges might get fuzzy over time, and if the fusible is a little too big it will show. In both cases you can cover up with a dense satin-stitch edge, but blanket-stitching will probably not work well.

You might want to consider Laser Cut Applique (NAYY) they cut the fabric and fusible with a laser which also bonds the edges. I have not personally used them but I have seen them used with good results.

I'm curious if anyone here has used the die-cuts from Keepsake.

Here's a link to a raw edge applique video class done by Sharon Schamber that shows how to do raw edge applique using liquid stitch rather than fusible web. Link to Video

That's a bit different than what I had in mind, but it will certainly do for what I need it for. Thanks for all the good information all!
