I have been carpooling with a neighbor for the last several weeks, and I happen to mention the other day that I purchased some new sewing patterns. She was amazed that I sew, and offered to show me some designer clothing she had been given my a wealthy italian friend.
Well, this morning she brought me two exquisite Valentio suits! The construction and seaming were amazing! She allowed me to go over each piece with a magnifying glass, turn them inside out, examine them very closely. They are from the 1970's. They both were wool crepe that even today was firm and extremely fine. The skirt suit had a scalloped velvet lapel. The pant suit was an ivory crepe with satin lapels. All of the stitching and seaming was done by hand. Hand set sleeves, pockets, etc. She offered to let me keep them for few days, and even gave me permission to undo the stitching in the lining so I could look inside! She said she doesn't care because she will never wear them. The crepe is just too heavy for our climate, even in winter, but she does love having them and looking at them. Tomorrow she is going to bring over two pairs of handmade crocodile pumps from Italy to see if they fit me, because they are too small for her!

How exciting. I once owned a jacket bought on sale from Valentino's much less expensive RTW line, Miss V. It was well made, but definitely not couture.

From what others have said, the nasty message came from Fitting Woes, NOT Misc Hot Topics or the Civility thread.

A bad day in the sewing room is better than a good day at the office.

That is so incredibly wonderful. Have you had the opportunity to see the documentary film, Valentino the Last Emperor? Oh my, you would appreciate the meritoriousness of these special pieces even more so.
