Are there any designs available? What do you do with your giga hoop? (Moderated by Pyrose)

I just got my machine and have been playing along, having a blast. thanks to all the tips and info on the boards, I've found the answers to most all my questions.
I've not invested in any software to date, there simply is a world of designs available for little or no cost. However, I can't seem to find any specifically for the giga hoop accessory. Embroidery library has a few split designs but they require rehooping. and i did find a service that offers "split" design service coupled with embroidery library designs.
so now I'm curious, those who have giga hoop, do you love it? What do you use it for? Where do you get your designs? I'd love to see some creations!!

I have the giga hoop with my 10001. And although I don't use it a lot it's come in quite handy. What I like to do with it is combine designs to make pictures and doing writing. But I feel you really need the Janome customizer software to work the best with it. You can work with it through Embird but I think it's a lot easier with customizer. What is confusing is that even though the hoop is bigger you can only do 2 5 x 7 designs. That the biggest designs the machine will do. I kinda of feel Janome didn't go far enough in explaining how to really use this hoop and I learned as I went for combining things. I did split a bigger design and then lined it up in the gigahoop but it took so many steps I couldn't begin to explain how I did it. The giga hoop is divided into two sections and on the stitch out you will sew down one side of the hoop and then when that side is finished the machine will tell you to turn the hoop to the other side and it will stitch that part of it. But you will need one of the two software's I mention to use the hoop as the design has to be set up. Stitchize an embroidery company in Canada did make designs for the giga hoop. I don't know if they still do or not. I got some in a stitch package I got with my machine.
I do remember some of what I did to split the design. First I split the design into 2 parts in Embird (this is what was time consuming figuring this out, also Customizer doesn't split so needed Embird also), and the it actually became 2 separate designs. Then imported them into the customizer software and joined them in the giga hoop. The the giga hoop split it again and it was lined up pretty well especially for a first attempt. However I don't work with bigger designs the 5 x 7 because of the time they take to stitch out etc. I do have a dragon and a fantasy horse I want to play with but hard to find 4 hours at a time to do it. Hope this helps.

thanks...I was hoping I could just buy designs for the giga hoop that were already split and ready to stitch. I did see a vendor that has a few things on ebay but they really aren't my style. I need to curb my spending a bit so I'm waiting on any software purchase.

the only place I've ever seen giga-hoop designs ready to go is through Stitcherize out of Canada. They make design packs that dealers will sell. They can buy from them direct but I just went to their website and couldn't look up giga-hoop designs. I got a 4,000 designs package with my machine when I brought it. I got it for $50 and it usually goes for $1800 and it included giga-designs. But I think the giga hoop was mostly designed for you to create and combine your own designs. That's why you don't see them readily available.

Chris,
I think you wrote me and asked if I would up date my pictures from my old gallery. Wasn't it poopy of AOL to dump their pictures? My dh saved them some where on his computer upstairs and I will see if he can retrieve them for me tonight. I probably at least post some of them in this thread.
Otherwise, my dd has recently hung two of them I made for her son on the wall and I can take new pictures of them. Then you can see what I did with the centers on the giga hoop for the rag quilts.
Sorry about the delay, but life has been a little crazy lately.

I have not had time to read this whole thread, but I bought Customizer to be able to do the giga hoop and it came with some designs. I have personally digitized a lot of designs, but it can be a little tricky getting the two designs and their objects in order so you end up with a cohesive product.

I like customizer also cos you can plot designs up to a 25.5" by 33". Think 3 standard paper sheets across and 3 down. I also would recommend the clothsetter. I wouldn't be without for placement. I was lucky when I brought my Janome she threw all that stuff in. I got the software, giga hoop and the cloth setter. My only problem is to stop buying new designs and give myself time to use them.

Yep..that was me. I read somewhere in the board threads about your rag quilts and went looking...
Whenever you get inspired to take a picture, that would be great!
I'm not ready to digitize, etc. I'm having a blast stitching pre-made designs. thanks again.
