There is a lot of advice about scooping out the back of the crotch as a pants alteration. Can anyone give me a visual of what this means? I cannot visualize it.
Thanks

Thanks. I was thinking it was more complicated than that.

But do you then need to add fabric to the sideseam? Always wondered about that. Thanks, Laura

Not necessarily. You may already have enough width in the back of the pants.

But, if you get any horizontal wrinkles or pulling, then you could add more to the side seam.

The best thing to do is to make the alteration to the back seam, and then leave 1 inch seam allowances on the side seams. This will give you room to alter if necessary.

If you take this adjustment all the way up to the waist, as in some alterations, and you don't have a flat butt, then yes you would have to add to the hips, but not on the one Liz showed.
