I wear my ankle-length Boot Skirts from Textile Studios/Loes Hinse with the kick pleat in the back. After a change in my personal style, I decided to cut them all a little below my knee. Some fit fine. When I initially sewed them I adjusted for my tilted waist on most of them, so why is it that after I cut off about 9 inches that on some my tilted waist is so pronounced? Did I cut the bottom wrong? Can I make adjustments as simple as cutting the hem lower in the back and higher in the front with my rotary cutter? Do I have to start all over again at the waistline by cutting a new casing so as not to lose length? I appreciate all of your help.

The reason for altering a tilted waistline at the waist is to maintain the grainline as it hangs from the waist. However, if your choice are either not wear the garment/throw it away and altering at the hem, I say alter at the hemline. At least you'll still have the skirt and the hem will be straight. Sometimes you can't even tell if the grainline is off.

I saw this earlier, and it's been puzzling me. I was wondering, "Does that mean one side is higher than the other or that the back hangs shorter than the front?" So I did some research.

Not only did I find I have a tilted waist, which explains why I always have to add to the back and take away from the front. But in all my research I discovered I also should be making a hollow chest adjustment, which explained why I often take a deeper shoulder seam at the neck.

So thank you for helping me with TWO fitting issues I didn't even know I had!
