Lighting for Sewing? (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

I know there have been threads on lights for your sewing, but they don't come up on Search.
I currently have a standard goose-neck desk lamp, but I wondered if the cool lites or others throw better lighting, less glare, or what? I have my machine under a double window now, but won't have that if I can ever sell this house!
Ott is the only brand I see advertised. Joann's upcoming sale has them, along with a whole $10 coupon if you first spend $66 for their 66th Anniversary-- how generous of them!?
I already wear magnifiers for close-up, so will different lighting help?

KSO, you're welcome to come borrow an Ott light if you want to try one before buying. Tuesday morning had them soooo cheap a few weeks back. They may still have some.
So with the sale price, minus the l0.00 if you were planning on spending 66 dollars anyway, come to less than 40% off, as they do have those coupons all te time, not good on sale items, and I am not sure if they are good on Ott lighting.
BTW, have seen drastic reductions on these lights at Hobby Lobby recently too.
You might also try using daylight light bulbs for your lamps. I bought mine at the lumberyard, Really helped. Try one and see, as you don't want to have to carry the Ott light all over the house.

Thanks, I didn't think about trying other bulbs first.
Some say their Ott replacement bulbs are hard to find, so I don't know if they are specialty and don't take a universal bulb.
I never find $66 worth at Joann's at one time!
There is a TM near me...hmm??

I have an Ott Lite that I really like. I got mine at Michaels for 40% off. With patience, it could be possible to get it there with a 50% coupon if they don't have it on sale as well.

I put a full spectrum bulb/Ott Lite in my sewing lamp at home. I notice a huge difference in being able to see black thread on black fabric with that lamp vs. without. I purchased an Ott-Lite desk lamp for work (I have to look at stitches at work sometimes) at Lowe's and it was only about $30.

My e-mail from Joann's says 19.99. So they are good huh? Looking for a good sewing lamp that is not hot. I noticed if I have a goose neck lamp with a normal bulb the heat is perhaps dangerous so near my machine.

My Ott-Lites help me a lot for close-up work. I have three. Yes, you need to buy special bulbs, but they last a long time and should not need to be replaced often. My advice is: if you have the money, get one for wherever you sew.

From what others have said, the nasty message came from Fitting Woes, NOT Misc Hot Topics or the Civility thread.

I don't think one can ever own too many full-spectrum lights. I currently have 5
That said, I'm a geezer and even with the FS lights, i can no longer see black on black after dark.
