I have given myself a ridiculous task of making many, many yards of bias tape with home dec fabric. If I ever do this project again, it will be on-grain tape, as it was not necessary to do bias, but I did it and now am bumbling through anyway.
As I was struggling to get a reluctant seam to go through the bias tape maker, the blue plastic bit pulled right out of the metal part. Argh! Well, it got seated back in and it was fine. Then as I was working on getting the next strip wiggled into the thing and finding all kids of neat ways to pull it through (some scotch tape on the end of the fabric really helps) it occurred to me that I could just pull the tape maker apart, lay the fabric into the metal piece and slide the plastic bit back in on top of the fabric. Joy!
Thin, slippery fabrics may be easier, but ifyou are dealing with something heavier, give it a try.
