I bought a knit from WallyWorld a few months ago. It literally feels like butter! It doesn't feel slinky at all, and barely a sheen to it unless looking very closely. I've felt rayon knit and this does not compare. Buttery soft with a beautiful drape! Any ideas?

Have you done a burn test?

You really have to try a burn test to determine fiber content. When I could go to Wally World and buy inexpensive fabric, I would hold the fabric in my clenched fist for 90 seconds to see if it wrinkled. Polyester doesn't wrinkle, so if I saw wrinkles, I would buy it and bring it home. Then, I could do a burn test to see what I had.

Your knit sounds lovely. Post the results of the burn test!

On to look up how to do a proper "burn test".

meesa - burn tests are kinda fun in a weird sort of way. Always reminds me of Phoebe's brother on "Friends."

Ok, so it does wrinkle when I held it in my clenched fist for 90 seconds.

I did the burn test and it smelled like burning paper. It burned with a yellow fire, able to be blown out and the ashes were fragile and easy to blow away. It does have 4-way stretch with subtle sheen when you look closely. I'm guessing a cotton/lycra?

As I'm searching the web, now I wonder if it is Modal? I need to go find some Modal underwear or sheets and see if they are the same thing.

I have some Modal tank tops, and they are really soft, and they do wrinkle. Nice stretch. They also *pill,* so keep that in mind with whatever you're making!

Burning paper smell, yellow flame, feathery ash = cotton.

I agree with your cotton/lycra guess.
