I live in the south suburbs of Chicago and just recently went to Vogue Fabrics in Lansing, IL. I didn't see any silk jersey there. I didn't even bother with JoAnn or Hancock, because if I had seen something that even looked like what I have seen Sandra Betzina wear I would have picked it up. I want to sew something besides matte jersey. I need some sheen to my fabrics but also need the comfortable fit of knit. Where are some other fabric stores I can go to that for sure have this type of fabric? I work downtown so there is a chance that I can walk over during a lunch hour to a store if there is one downtown.

Thanks,

Ericka

Well I don't know about Chicago, but isn't there a high end fabric store there called Fishman?
I do have several sources for buying it online.
Emmaonesock She doesn't always have it, but when she does it's gorgeous.

I'm pretty sure there's also a Vogue fabrics downtown now.

But I think if you call any of the Vogue fabrics stores, Evanston, Lansing or the downtown one, they could tell you if they have silk jersey in stock. My guess is that Evanston will definitely have it and that they could send it to either of the other stores if needed.

When you are at any of their stores, you should interrupt the sales people (hard sometimes, my experience) and ASK about anything you can't find. They have an amazing array of stock, but it's not always easy for me to locate...

I've never seen any at the Evanston store but it is worth a call. Fishman's on DesPlaines at Roosevelt would be a better bet, I think. You COULD walk it from the Loop but you probably wouldn't want to. Take the #12/Roosevelt bus. They close early--5:00 p.m.

The more I think about it, I think I would just buy it online.

Well, unless you just want a reason to shop in person at Fishman's or somewhere.

I was just as Fishman's and wrote an extensive review in the Store Reviews section on PR. Conveniently the downtown Vogue is 2 minutes (if even) walk down the street from them, so you might just go to look around. Didn't pay attention to whether they (Fishman's) had silk jersey, but you can call ahead. I'm almost certain Vogue didn't have any silk jersey when I was there (last weekend).

I forgot to add that I was also at the Evanston Vogue last week as well and didn't see any silk jersey. Wasn't looking for it specifically, and unless it was on the walls behind the counters (mostly silk charmeuse though), I'd call ahead to save a trip.
