Hi all,
I'm a beginning sewer, who used to sew in high school, and am now returning to it. One of my first projects that I want to do is to create a crate cover for my dog's crate. I've done the measurements, and gotten the fabric, and am all set to go, but what's stopping me is figuring out how to sew the corners of the cover together. The cover is going to be a total of five pieces, the four sides and the top...I can see in my mind how to put the sides together, but I get a little lost when it comes to attaching the top. Should I press the seams out, and then sew on the top? Please help!
Thanks!
Sarah

Alternative Windows Box Cushion Instructions
Here's a link to instructions for sewing a box cushion, which is the same basic shape as your crate. The illustration near steps 6 & 7 shows how the 5 pieces go together. Sew the four sides, but leave the last bit, the width of the seam allowance, unsewn. Be sure to backstitch at that point.
You can see on the illustration how the seam allowances sewn to the top of the cushion (box) lay flat because that unsewn part of the seam allows the sides to "open up" at the corners of the top-of-the-box piece.

Fabulous! Thanks so much for the link, CMC! I knew it was one of those things that I would get when I saw/heard it...I just couldn't wrap my brain around it myself!
