Hi,

I am making a trench coat with a peach skin (sueded) cotton outer fabric and a silk charmeuse lining. I've just finished the muslin and am ready to start on the actual trench. But I don't know if I should launder the cotton fabric or not since, most likely, I will dry clean the finished garment going forward.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

It's recommended that you pre-treat your fabric the method you will be washing it after the garment is completed. If you will be dry cleaning it, I don't see why you would need to launder it.

I agree with Loti, but some treated cottons, and silks for that matter, changes surface when washed in water, so my rec would be that you wash a swatch of each to see if the fabric changes. If you are fine with how it looks, then go ahead and pre-treat the whole lot in water.

Thank you both. I decided to treat it as a wool and put it in the dryer with some wet towel. I think it did the trick without damaging the peach skin finish.
