I am working on a 1967 pattern for a dress. The bust size is about 1 inch larger than mine but I the armhole armcyse (spelling?) is incredibly small. Is this normal for vintage patterns? Also, the neckline is VERY high, almost to the point of choking me. Is this normal as well?
Thanks!

It's hard to say without looking at the pattern drawing. Most vintage patterns are excessively well-cut, especially about the armscythes. Sleeveless bodices will have smaller armscythes, sleeved blouses and dresses are pretty medium, and the coats and jackets are lower. The other thing is, most modern women have larger upper arms than our mid-century counterparts for one of two reasons- we're fatter or we work out more so our biceps are bigger. Hope that helps. Do post a picture.

I love the 40s and 50s, not so much the 60s, but I do have a few 60s patterns and have found the necklines and armholes to be smaller than I expected on some of the a line mod style dress patterns.

From what others have said, the nasty message came from Fitting Woes, NOT Misc Hot Topics or the Civility thread.

In many of the '60's patterns, you weren't expected to move your arms. You just stood there and posed sweetly.
