This is the sort of fabric buying I hate to do. I was in JoAnn's, about to leave (I'd hoped to find fabric for a skirt, but they didn't have good colors in the fabric I wanted) when I ran into a friend from work. She said the craft store down the road was going out of business, and everything was 30% off. They had some fabric too - mostly interesting cottons suitable for quilting or curtains (and the occasional shirt, skirt or summer dress). I didn't have the yardage information for any of my shirt or dress patterns along, and it was late in the afternoon. I wound up getting three pieces of fabric I can use for spring clothes, and I was guessing on the amount. At least two of the pieces go with some linen I already have. But I'm already feeling bad about not getting some other fabric I saw, and some zippers. And of course I'm feeling really bad about the place closing.

Probably all of us have experienced a favorite craft store or fun little "doo-dad" store closing. It's sad and only going to get worse.

Yes, the (what I call) "Mom and Pop" stores are going by the wayside to the bigger, super stores such as Joann's, Walmart, etc. It's a sad, sad, thing. And then you feel bad for the owners, who have probably had that store for a number of years.

While it is sad--and it is--if the store that's closing carries patterns, they often sell the pattern cabinets themselves for very little. If you have a lot of patterns (as I do), buying one of these goes a looooong way towards corralling the pattern stash.
