I've had a Janome 10001 for several years and am generally pleased with it but it does have one peculiarity. I'm trying to figure out if this is a glitch with my machine or the nature of the beast.

I normally sew so the machine stops with the needle in the fabric. Let's say I sew a seam and want to reverse sew at the end of a seam. I sew, I stop (needle is in fabric), I then press and hold the reserve button but before the machine reverses it sews one stitch forward. This makes it hard to stop in a precise spot. It also does the same thing with the tie off button. Is this normal

So 10001 owners could you please check your machines and report back to me.

Thank you,
Jan

Not owning this machine, I can't answer your question. But I can bump it up. Hope you get an answer soon. Goo luck!

Completely not familiar with this machine, so I'm troubleshooting in the dark, but have you tried stopping with the needle in the up position, and if so, what is the result? Is it possible to change the up/down stop position and get a better result?

What I'm thinking is going on here, is that the machine won't back up with the needle down, as the hook is just picking up the thread at that time, and backing up would leave a half-finished stitch below the fabric. Might not work out. So the machine finishes the stitch it's in the middle of before reversing. Make sense? Of course that's conjecture, but it sounds logical, and it bumps your question!

Hi, Al,
I tried stopping with the machine in the needle up position then hitting and holding the reverse button. It again went forward to take a stitch before going backwards. Since the 10001 has been discontinued I couldn't find it in my local shop to test theirs but I did try out some other computerized Janomes such as the Janome Gem. It doesn't do the annoying forward stitch mine does which leads me to believe this a programming issue. I've read all the 10001 reviews and nobody has mentioned this problem under the "things they don't like about the machine". If this is normal for the machine I can't imagine that it doesn't bother other folks. I mean don't they often need to stop in a precise place, too?

Didn't see your question untill now and since nobody else responded I got curious. I purchased my machine used about 6 months ago and havn't found any problems while sewing.

I went to the machine and slowed the speed right down to a crawl so I could easily see that the needle was doing when stopped. Yes, it does take 1 extra stitch after the machine stops when you press the reverse or tie off. Tried it both ways with needle up and needle down and it's the same. When you touch the reverse while sewing the machines dosn't make the extra stitch.

When I have a bit of time I'll have to test out my Pfaff and Brother and Babylock machines to see if they all do it.
