Since my dressform came w/very few instructions I would be interested to know a little more about how to corretcly use the hem guide on it. I am guessing ado a fitting on the client first and mark the hem on her first. Is the guide there to just help yu keep and even hem seam? Sould I use a chalk or crayon or just pin depending on the fabric. I will be doing a satin bridesmaid gown.

The only thing I can suggest is NOT to use pins on satin, unless you test first to see that they will not leave holes. But the question of how to use a skirt marker is one that I am interested in. I do not use the one that came fitted to my dressform, but I do have a free-standing pin-type one that I have used. My confusion with it was for full/flared skirts/dresses. Whether to continually reposition the marker in and out of the natural folds (not moving the garment) while I pin-mark the hemline, or if I should be keeping the marker stationery in the same sized circle and bring the garment edge to be pinned at that point. (Hope this is clear) I have, with wonderful results, done the former which gave me a very nice even hem, and seemed to give body and movement to the garment. I think the latter method produced an even hem also, but to me (I could be imaging this) one where the garment just "hanged" without body. Does anyone else have any comments about this, please I would love to know.
