I am going to attempt to make ruffles to place around the neckline of a simple sheath dress.

Any tips on making ruffles? I do not have a ruffler foot for my sewing machine.

The fabric I am using is a stretch ponte knit.

I believe the best method, is to cut the fabric in small sections and then make ruffles; so I can avoid the headache of the thread snapping.

Any tips out there?

How about circle ruffles? You won't need to gather the inner edge. If the fabric doesn't ravel you can leave the outer edge raw.
