I'd like to find an online source for felt in variety packs. I've checked ebay, etsy, and amazon, and found some there. A bit pricey though. I'm hoping to find it for less than .29 9x12. I'm not ready to buy it by the yard. My projects aren't large enough for that much and require a larger variety of color.

At that price I don't think you're going to do better than the ecofelt they sell at Joanns (and maybe other craft stores). Most of the felt online is wool or a wool blend, and I never see it priced that low. I would love to be wrong if anyone knows of a source though!!

I've ordered from Prairie Point Junction many, many times and have been VERY satisfied (NAYY) with their quality and their customer service. The colors they offer are SO yummy and if you need some color inspiration, they have gorgeous bundles ("dessert" colors, neutrals, spring, summer, etc).

ETA: Forgot to mention: The fibers range from 20/80 to 35/65 (Wool/Rayon) depending on the colors. But they do offer 100% Wool felt now, too!!!

I love PPJ! Their wool felt is the best I have ever used. And the colors are great.

It's a lot more than the OP wants to spend though, she's looking for 9x12 sheets under 29 cents; I have never seen a wool blend anywhere near that price.

Oh. Well, I feel like a moron. I didn't see that. :/

The cheapest (next to PPJ) that I've seen is at Hobby Lobby for $2.50 (I think) in a 9x12 cut. Which I don't think is all *that* cheap. Plus, the colors are *REALLY* limited. :/

Her best bet, then, is probably either to haunt eBay, looking for a cheap auction ~ or join the Yahoo group SewItsForSale. Sometimes, there's AMAZING bargains to be had there. I just recently bought a huge lot of wooly nylon serger thread for $20 (plus shipping). It was easily worth three times that.

I guess it's also worth saying that usually, "cheap" and our hobby are usually synomous.

DH learned a LONG time ago not to say things like "It cost how much to make that? We coulda gotten that at Walmart for $15!"

He enjoys the shirts I make him too much. Since he's a 3XLT, it's usually REALLY hard for him to find shirts that don't look "old mannish" in his sizes. Plus, he has a thing for tacky Hawaiian shirts (think parrots drinking tequila). For him, it's the height of kitsch!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking for crafting felt. Any fiber content, needn't be wool. It's for making my daughter hair accessories to go with the clothing we make. So it's more about color and price than content. If we can find it "cheap" then we'll make some for her to share with friends, too.
I don't mean to sound cheap, on our friends though.

*snort*

Are you kidding me??? Cheap??? Our hobby is anything BUT cheap!!!

Personally, I am ALL about saving my pennies. Especially if it means that when it's for something special or a REALLY good buy, I can spend a wee bit more with those saved up pennies!!!

I guess then, for regular craft felt, I'd go with those variety packs that Walmart usually carries. It's the regular colors like red, black, brown, yellow, white, green, etc, and it comes in REALLY thick pack. They're 9x12 and you get about 4 or 5 sheets of each color. It costs about $2.50-$5 for the pack.

You can also hit Hobby Lobby and do the individual sheets for about $.15 sheet (again, 9x12) I believe. Might be as high as $.30, but no more than, I think.

Watch your sales flyers; this is one of those things that goes on sale around holidays (Valentine's, Hallowe'en, etc) and is often pictured with kids' crafts. I usually buy felt by the sheet from Michaels; they seem to have the biggest variety of colors. I will say that it does vary in quality/weight/thickness, though. I bought a bunch a couple of Christmases ago for stockings, and the white was almost too thick to work with, and the light blue was translucent, it was so thin.
