I haven't seen this discussed so I am hoping I put this in the right place. Several years ago I bought a Bernina steam iron. It was the best iron, it had fewer steam holes on the sole so that when you pressed something you didn't get the impression of the holes, it also steamed at low heats and the sole was stainless steel (?) I think. Anyway, the iron started releasing steam when it was not supposed to and I called the dealer who said that Bernina doesn't sell them any longer and that they couldn't fix it because they couldn't get parts. I was not very happy because I had paid a small fortune for it, comparatively speaking. Then the dealer called me back and said that he did have some parts he stocked when he heard that Bernina wasn't selling irons anymore. So I took the iron in 5 weeks ago and haven't heard from them yet. I called and they said he was behind on his sewing machines. Actually, he did have a serious accident so I understood. But, does anyone have a recommendation for steam irons? Long winded question, sorry about that.

I really love my Rowenta DG980 Steam Generator. It has a huge tank and has served me well for the last 5 years, nearly constant use.

I had a Bernina iron, many years ago, and it was wonderful until it fell on the tile floor. I purchased the Black & Decker Digital Advantage, about five (5) years ago and it is as good as the Bernina. Constant steam if needed and even temperature. I use distilled water, empty it when finished and it never 'spits' brown spots. Plus, it's a reasonable price.

Reliable irons...any except the V95 (the old model)....they dont spit, drip, no water extruded, great steam, great pressing, greating ironing....I can't recommend them enough! Those Bernina irons are great, used one at the Bernina store, and like you said, no longer available. Hope this helps

I love my Rowenta Steam Generator. I have had mine along time. Since I live in Florida, I do have to use bottle water because the deposits from the tap water clog up the iron. But when using the bottled water, I have never had a problem with it. It's wonderful.

I just looked at the link and it shows up as just a blank search. I can't get it to work. Go to search board on the top of the page, type in steam irons, click on subject and titles, and then search through all forums. Hmmm. There are about 4 or 5 threads, including this one.
Aggravating that my link works when I preview, but it didn't show up on what I just posted.

"Never say never." I swore I would never touch a sewing machine after my Home Ec class as a freshman in high school...

I have a Bernina steam iron that I've only used a couple of times. I have lymphedema as a result of breast cancer surgery and the Bernina is just too heavy and causes increased swelling of my arm if I use it. So it just sits in the closet these days.
I have tried several steam irons, including Roweta, but the best so far has been a "new" old stock GE steam iron from the 1960's. It's avacado green, 1700 watts, sprayer and water window. I like it so much that I watched Ebay until I found another "new" one just like it and bought that one too.

To be honest, every steam iron I've used leave marks. Now I use a vintage iron (50+ years old) that has a flat sole and generates no steam. I use it with a spray bottle. No mark or bubbles anywhere. I've been much happier ever since.

I use a T-Fal iron Avantis 100 I have had for about 5 or 6 years and it has worked out very well. I bought it at Sears and paid $89.00. I iron all the time, it is something I like to do (which I know is very odd), but my Grandma says my late aunt was the same way. My T-Fal has held up better than a Rowenta I used to own and I usually buy expensive ones. I do like Soolip's idea of spraying and an old iron. Then there is total control of water, got to try that.

I have seen a Bernina iron sold on Ebay, so you might check there if you want one.
