We've discussed this in other threads, notably the ones about sewing mistakes, but maybe it would be helpful to talk about the times we shouldn't sew and why.

Last night I had a "weather" headache. If you have seen the Olympics, you know the weather on the west coast has taken a typical turn and gone from high pressure and sunshine to our usual drizzle and low clouds. The changeover seems to be very challenging to those of us who are prone to headaches. So rather than waste my time that I had set aside to sew, I chose to do a little fit of fitting and hand basted the seams. Much safer and saner than serging them off and regretting it later!

There are days when your body lets you know that it would be unwise to work with anything that is pointy or has a sharp edge! I have made some of the most disastrous mistakes when trying to sew on an 'off' day.

I know exactly what you mean, tourist. I've suffered from migraines my whole life. I've had times where I've attempted to fight the migraine and just sew anyway. The results are disastrous because I make mistakes I wouldn't normally make. So if I insist on sewing during a migraine, I only do the easier stuff that's much harder to mess up.

I was serging the seam allowance on the armhole of a jacket that I finished this weekend when my 13-year-old, 13 lb cat decided that he needed to cuddle in my lap. Rather than booting him out, I continued and ended up with a nice tuck in the back of the sleeve where I caught some of the sleeve cap in the serger.

I know that I should not sew after consuming margaritas. It should be self evident, but I learned the hard way. Now I have a very very short skirt! Ooops.

And, I wanted to add...also I should not go shopping for fabric when I am mad at my husband. Hee hee.

I can not sew after 10pm. In fact, I can not do anything sewing related after 10. So no all nighters for me. (I keep trying to pull all nighters, but after 10 always brings on minor and major mistakes).

Tourist- I'm right there with ya on the migraines! (I live just a couple hours south of you). Although, I've almost stopped drinking milk entirely....Well, I still have a little in my hot chocolate, and I still put it in my baked goods like pancakes and some breads, and I think it's made a big difference. I can at least tolerate the migrianes instead of keeping my windows shut and kids quiet and feeling like I'm going to fall over I'm so dizzy and nausous. Hope you're feeling better!

If there isn't enough light, I should not sew or mess with rotary cutters.

Last night I was using my wave rotary cutter to trim some lining which was already in the skirt. No I didn't cut the skirt but I have some wavy cuts in the lining. I repaired it with some iron on stabilizer. So annoyed.

I have a "pencils down" rule at midnight. No good comes of sewing after that.

Yeah, I know about this one too. Although my stash now includes some beautiful silk taffeta and gorgeous Sea Island cotton shirtings.

Even when I am angry at him I still buy stuff to use to make stuff for him. That's true love, isn't it?
