Are they different enough to warrant having both?  I have the Jalie and haven't made it yet, but am considering picking up the KS on my next order.

Opinions anyone?

My excuse for buying the jalie in addition to the kwiksew, is that the jalie has children's sizes also.  I made it for my dd, and may do so again as she grows.
Having said that, if I were only sewing for myself, I like the kwiksew better.

If you are thinking about it, you probably want both. There is nothing wrong with having two similar patterns....to compare fit perhaps. Do you need it? Probably not. But if you want it, I think you should give yourself permission to buy it. I'm not suggesting financal irresponsibility. I just don't think you need to justify buying it. You could resell on Ebay later if you don''t like it. New Kwik Sews seem popular.

Another consideration is that the Jalie is sized for 75% stretch while the KS is 35%, I believe.  The Jalie top is also a little bit less revealing.  I do have them both.  Yes, I could have altered the KS to have a front band or an asymmetrical hem but I figure that my time is worth something too.  Like Patty says, if you find you aren't using one of them after all you can always sell it and recoup some of your $$.

Oh, believe you me, I have no problems buying many similar patterns, esp from well respected companies, I was just curious if there were enough differences in them to make it worthwhile.

Sounds like they're just different enough, so I've now ordered the KS as well.

This post made me smile as I have both patterns but have not yet touched the Jalie and was beginning to wonder the same thing! :D   Guess I will have to sew a Jalie top up to see the difference myself.  Don't know if I have a fabric with 75% stretch, though.  May have to go shopping once the stash contest is over.

Like Miss Frizzle says "Take chances, make mistakes ..." isn't that what fitting is all about? I am happily taking chances and making mistakes as I fit muslin after muslin ...

Lorna, Slinky is wonderful for the Jalie top.
