for running repairs (Moderated by Sharon1952)

Son1 is about to move into a college dorm, and I've been checking his sewing kit (he got a standard kit for school sewing classes in 5th grade), and comparing it with the mini-kit I keep for quick repairs.
I wondered what we all find useful enough to keep at hand, or necessary even for non-sewers?
Anything here that you would NEVER bother putting in your emergency kit?
Container:
Mine - kid's kindergarten lunch box, repurposed! (About 5-6" long).
His - small flattish box, with divisions, about 8" long.
Thread:
- a card of strong button thread in mixed colors (menswear selection)
-disk of wax for pulling button-thread through
My box contains a card or two of fine silk thread (handy for taking up hems on wool suit pants)
Several cards of handsewing thread...white/black/gray/dk. beige
Needle book
Few pins, safety pins
Couple of shirt buttons and pants buttons for emergencies
Tiny pincushion that I made inside a bottle-top
Seam-ripper
Embroidery scissors/thread snips
Thimble
Tape-measure in son's kit, mini-ruler in mine
Small chalk or marking pencil
Elastic-threader
Son's kit contains a few things that I keep with my main sewing supplies, not in my mini-kit:
- a medium-sized pair of shears. Though I doubt he will use them.
- iron-on hemming tape in a couple of colors.

College boy's sewing kit. Hmmmmm..... A roll of duct tape & call it done?
Seriously, I love the iron on tape idea, & I might add a roll of stick-on velcro strips. College days - quick & easy necessities!
I might even add velcro strips in my own emergency kit...hmmmmm.......

Masking tape? I remember using this for quick hemming repairs. You know, you going to class and don't have time to heat up that iron to use the fusible stuff. Actually anytime we bought pants that were too long, we would use masking tape and I don't know if we ever got around to hemming those babies. LOL!

Actually velcro is handy for keeping track of all sorts of small objects! Great idea.
When I bought the pack of button thread today, I found a new take on the iron-on patch idea. I don't like the ones I've seen in the past, too heavy and very ugly. But this was just short lengths of iron-on tape in 6 menswear colors (they had two other sets of colors), in a versatile medium-weight broadcloth weave.
I imagine the masking tape and duct tape will be packed together with the soldering iron, various types of pliers etc!
