I am new to garment sewing and trying to find the best fit... but really do not fit the chart. My measurements are 41 1/2, 40, 42 which puts me around a 20, but I am short 5'2", and my waist does not fit that measurement. What is my best option? Thanks, I also posted this on the beginners board.

Looks to me like you might find an 18W Petite in Butterick to be close and then you will have some fitting decisions.
With a multi-size pattern, which most are these days, you can grade from one size to another. My waist is at least a size to a size and half larger than my hips and/or bust and it seems to me I am not the only one with this size discrepancy. Also, you might consider selecting a pattern by your high bust measurement as it is typically smaller and could assist you in fitting if your upper chest is not full.

One thing is for certain, the majority of us must alter the patterns we are sewing and I for one have been having a real battle of it lately as I have recently been in a position to sew for myself again. Little by little I am getting there, but it can be a struggle at times.
Best wishes for your successful sewing adventures!
