Hi all! I am looking at possible shirting fabric, and see "cotton lawn" fabric. It says it's semi-sheer...is this just a thin cotton? Think it might work for a peasant type top if I wore a cami under it?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, a peasant blouse would perfect for this fabric if you don't mind wearing a cami under it.

Those peasant tops are nice and full, so the
gathers could provide enough coverage with just a nude bra under
when it gets to be 100 here soon!

I love when they show 3 layers on the mannequins in July--have you ever tried that in Texas heat?

I bought a piece of the printed lawn. lawn is a bit heavier than voile, but not as heavy as a broadcloth.

My piece was a medium quality lawn. Not sheer, you would not need a cami underneath. The hand is not as soft as other lawns I have, but the price was lower. The background on my monitor looked white, and the piece I received was a gray ish white.

I got the print that is blue with daisy medallions. HTH

I agree with Andi--it is not too sheer. I recently ordered some of the solid lawn fabric for pockets and facings and things and depending on the color/print, a nude bra would probably be just fine.

Renew Thread please...

Ordering Cotton Lawn vs. the polys here or elsewhere?

I actually found some poly? hidden in JA's Silkies that's working out for a tunic top. It's enough of a cottton-like coral/cream/sage print that doesn't need a cami under.
Craving more online, but not the really sheer or slippery/fraying like Silkies.

Re: Fabric.com Cotton Lawn fabric (posted on 6/24/14 10:15 AM ET)
I try to avoid the poly lawn because like poly chiffon, it tends to be hotter in the summer than a sheer fabric should be. I did get a piece of the JA fabric earlier, in a cute white background print.

I bought the fabric.com lawn in a medium dark solid color. It would be fine with a bra close to one's skin tone. For a dress, I would probably wear at least a half slip slip underneath.
