I know, I know--there are reviews on theis machine. But I know there are other PR members that have this machine but not reviewed it.
Long story short--I was making a sample the other day at the store and I used this machine. No, lets be truthful here. I had an affair with this machine. I am lusting after this machine now.It seems to be the answer to my regret of selling my industrial single needle years ago because it wasn't very "portable". Fine stitches, yesiree! But it took up so much room.
Fast forward to yesterday. I was finishing the apron sample and I was LOVING this machine! The stitch quality. The needle up down. The commercial feel. The knee lift. I loved it all!!!
BUT--i did not sew through very heavy stuff on it. Just wondering if any of you handbag mavens or other heavy duty sewists have this machine and how does it perform on heavy stuff?
I haven't got much of a chance to play with it since we have been busy at the store so I guess I will have to rely upon PR members again to give me the straight story on this machine! I not only want some feedback for sales info but I just think I may want one for myself. Mother's Day is coming up...
PS In case you are wondering--working in that store is proving to be quite interesting. I may even make a little money after I am done feeding my addiction!

I have the 1600P (well, it's actually the Elna version but it is the EXACT same machine as the Janome, down to the colors).

The machine will plow through anything and maintain a beautiful stitch! Let's just say that when I bought this machine about a year ago I finally satisfied the machine junkie in me. I fell in love so completely that I haven't even done a double take on another machine since.

This isn't my only machine, I have one that is a sewing/embroidery combo, but if all I need to do is straight stitch, this is the one I go too.

I have the 1600P also. I did review it on PR, but I just want to say that I still agree with my review. Totally. I have a Viking #1, a Bernina 155, a Viking SE.....and which machine do I use? The Janome. After 40 years of sewing on different machines that can zig zag, I finally found what I had been seeking. I just didn't know that to find it I needed to buy a straight stitch only machine.....Helen

I've been thinking about adding a straight stitch to my list and have been lusting after the Juki 98Q. Thanks for putting this machine on the radar....

Is the 1600P an all metal machine, both inside and out? I'm pricing this one and it looks like it's about a $100-$150 below the Juki.

I also have the P version. I adore the machine. It feeds perfectly all the time. I bought the walking foot but discovered that I never need to use it. It sews through anything and the stitches remain perfect. The needle up/down button is the best because it reacts immediately, not on the next stitch. I bought mine to free motion quilt with and while it does that superbly I find I use it for lots of sewing. Mine sits in its own cabinet.

I have also have the P version, bought it with the idea of a using it on a frame but abandoned that idea. I have used it to sew through 4 or 5 layers when doing bags and in my recent experiements sewing leather. never have had the slightest problem with it - does one thing but really well.

Mrs. Moos, just curious, how much is your store listing the DB model? Because of this thread I have been looking at the Janome a bit more closely... Cheapest I can find right now for the DB model is $579 w/ free shipping (I am at an APO so USPS is the only way to go). Thanks!

Love that machine. I tested it, the identical Pfaff, the Juki TL98Q and the Brother/Babylock Quilters Pro. I love how they purr and the stitch is amazing. I like the speed control on the Janome since these machines can really go fast.

I had the Juki for a short time and sold it to a friend. I really liked it. I think I just like shopping, buying and playing with different machines. I have a feeling I'll be buying another one sometime int he future. I can't seem to get them out of my mind.
