DH and I are very fortunate to have sustained no damage at our home, were sixteen inches of rain fell in 36 hours. My sister's home, six miles north of me, received 19 inches in 36 hours.
Of all the images and videos I've seen yet, this one made me run for a Kleenex.

Wow, this was reported on CBC Radio in Canada Tuesday (6 minute program), but I had not looked for the images online.

My town had about 4 blocks of flooding late last year in a residential area, I cannot imagine the devastation Nashville is dealing with and the clean up.

This is just as real a disaster as Katrina or the oil rig in the Gulf.

I am glad to hear your house is undamaged.

Take Care.

You're right...that is a wonderful video....maybe they can get it picked up for some national news.

I hadn't thought about the lack of coverage. I have been watching on our news here and have seen some videos and reporting, but I am in a flood zone also, so that may have encouraged the local stations to report more.

Glad you are all OK...recovery for the city will probably take years, unfortunatly. If you hear of any sewing groups that need assisstance, like Sandi's sewing for the children of Haiti, I do hope you will let us know.

Thanks for the link. It made me teary as well. I was actually spared of the TV images, as our satellite signal was out due to the storm.

I was surprised none of my family has called yet to check on me since the storm. Obviously they were not made aware through their national news. It looks like the media focused on the gulf oil spill and the Times Square bomb scare. Only one friend of mine has called, and only because she heard about the flood on NPR.

I emailed the link to my family and friends. Thanks again.

So many of the major news services are based within a mile of Times square..It's only natural to be focused opn what is going on outside your door...

I have been very aware of the flooding though.. a bad time for so amny people..

looking forward to some calm in the news.

I heard it mentioned the other day and remember thinking "why had I not heard about this before". There does seem to be a lot going on in the world right now that affect so many people.

All they show here (FL) is the occasional shot of Opryland. The newscaster couldn't even pronounce Opryland...instead called it "opreyland"...sort of a blend of Opie and Oprah. Funny to a native TN girl. (Flood not being funny)

Doris, I have been thinking about those of you in TN and have watched with sadness the news stories. And I did see that the Red Cross is taking donations for flood victims.
Sad as the situation in TN is, I'm afraid that our news media cannot cover 3 big stories at the same time. 1-1/2 big stories seems to be their limit. Pathetic.

Thanks for sharing. It is really something that there has been so little coverage!

I think the news media in this country is an absolute disgrace. To ignore a disaster like that makes me question their credibility and their motives. What else is happening around the country of a similar nature that they don't feel is news worthy?

I'm glad you had no damage and good for Nashville for being so self-reliant.

This WAS in the news: BOSTON – A "catastrophic" break Saturday in a 10-foot wide steel pipe that had been installed in recent years rendered water in Boston and more than two dozen of its suburbs undrinkable, forcing Gov. Deval Patrick to declare a state of emergency.

Amazing.
