Not sure where to make the changes (Moderated by arianamaniacs)

I need a little expert help with this one. I am making a top for a gal whose measurements are 36 1/2 b, 36 w, and 43 hips. She is quite short in the torso (Idon't have that measurement yet) . I am making her a sparkly blouse for showing her horse. I was thinking a pattern with princess seams with the sides being in black and the brighter in the middle and up around the face. My question is how do I fit for this shape of body? Would I somehow grade from a 36 waist out to a 43 hip? What about frm the bust to the waist being almost the same size? I am picturing a straight up and down blouse with a flare for the hips. Doesn't sound to exciting though. I am going to have her try on a few tops I have made already that are in bigger sizes and see if that helps clear it up for me. I would love to hear some expert opinions/suggestions though!
TIA

I think your princess seam idea is a good one. Breaking it up as you suggest will give the optical illusion of slimming. Flaring out to the hips is a good idea, too. Would she be willing to wear shoulder pads? They have a way of making hips look smaller. You could make godets at the hip level, in two tones, with the darker part being on the inside. This would also give the appearance of slimming.

I fitted a princess seam dress on someone with measurements very like these. Its quite difficult to get any kind of illusion of waist definition by the cut alone, because even though the underbust measurement is smaller than the full bust measurement, there's either 'tum' or all round thickness bringing the waist measurement up. I think the idea of panels with different colours or textures could pull this off though, because the centre panels could be shaped as for waist shaping, and the 'extra' fabric be in the side panels.

I saw her yesterday and had her try on a couple styles for me. Even though the shirts I had weren't princess seams they did clean to her sides with a decent enhanced curved (if that makes sense) her bulk is on the belly/back area so her sides will definitely give her a slim look. The style she wants sits just at top of hip so I am pretty sure I can grade out 2 sizes for the lower portion.
Thanks for the help/suggestions.
