I just found this UFO, (Loes Hinze Gore Skirt, View A Loes Hinse Gore Skirt) cut out in a lovely rayon/rayon blend that would be perfect for a weekend garden party (this weekend!). I didn't have quite enough fabric when I cut it out, so it is a little short, even with a very narrow hem. Rather than cut it off to be even shorter, I was thinking of adding a hem trim of sorts. Originally, I had thought about some white eyelet-y stuff, but think that would be a little too cute. Now, I'm thinking maybe a bias strip of chiffon (in a complimentary color), with the edge left raw.

Thoughts? Other ideas? It has to be a fairly simple and fast solution.

That's a great pattern. Your idea of a bias strip sounds like a nice solution to that problem, particularly if you use one of the darker colors from the background of the print (or a complementary color that is also dark). I guess I wouldn't put an edge on that particular skirt that is light colored.

Leaving the hem edge raw will give it a more casual look, and that might be great depending on the look you're trying to achieve. Using a very narrow roll hem foot for the edge could be nice too.

Have fun at the party!

You might also be able to add to the top if you were a long top over it.
I would test out a few different ideas for the bottom . You could try a ruffle, the bias strip is a good idea.
Whenever something like this happens I do little test outs, usually two or three different ideas until the right one announces itself...
