Have you ever found a pattern that no matter how many muslins, it just will not fit well? I work and worked on a sundress and I just can't get it to fit me. I finally got fed up and threw it in the trash!

Yes I tried a pattern from Built By Wendy and I could not get it to fit for anything! I should have tried Fitting Woes but by then it was too many muslin too late! It was a top that was very low cut and the arms were way tight!

This dress was simple. I did my usual petite adjustments and a FBA. I'd get the bust to look good but then the shoulders wouldn't be right. I fixed that and then the armholes didn't fit me right. I gave up!

*A* pattern? I've had lots.
Some pattern lines, and some styles, are so far from my figure that it would take a heck of a lot of work to get them usable. Sometimes I give up on a project, then later have a brainstorm and come back to it, or at least the original pattern, with a new approach. But most of the time I decide that life is too short, that I learned some useful info, and I move on to things that are more suited to my figure and my skills.

I had a new look blouse and a simplicity blouse that I got the fit right through the bust, but the armhole draft was so high, it wasn't worth the trouble to make it work. I even had Marta Alto (ffrp) look at them, to make sure it just wasn't me. The draft was really odd compared to other patterns I was working on at the same time. So I moved on, there's lots of other blouse patterns out there.

Many, many times.
I toss the whole thing and move on.
There are to many variables that go into sewing that it just isn't worth it to beat you head agains a wadder.

Sometimes the pattern is poorly drafted. Sometimes, it's just not the style for you. Sometimes, the fabric really doesn't work for your body type. Sometimes, the fabric is wrong for the pattern or is just cheap and not worth using. You can find seemingly identical patterns when looking at the line drawings and one will fit superbly while the other looks a mess. Set it aside and try another pattern.
Keep track of waht works and what doesn't so you can spot a potential disaster before you waste too much time. Sometimes you can tell this by looking at the style. Sometimes you have to look at the pattern pieces.
For example, women who make a lot of pants can often recognize a good fit by looking at the crotch curve and seeing how round or angular it is, by looking at whether there is more fabric in the front or back of the legs, etc.

I do custom work all the time. Last summer I making a custom bodice for a girl. After 5 muslins it just WOULD NOT work. We just chucked it, and went another direction. I learned alot from it but was just frustrating!
