I have a Singer 99k that belonged to my father and before that my grandmother. While I have yet to actually use it, I have plugged it in, it runs beautifully as far as I can tell and seems to be in perfect condition. It's barely even dusty. Lucky me! I would like to finally get around to using it for topstitching and buttonholes. (My Viking makes beautiful buttonholes when it feels like it, which is about every other one.) I only have one foot for the machine and one bobbin, so I need to know more about what attachments and accessories (including bobbins) will work with a 99k. Any advice is much appreciated!

Pretty much any low shank, side clamping attachments will work with the 99. It takes a 66 style bobbin. In my experience, you can use the modern ones, but stick to the metal ones--sometimes the plastic ones misbehave in the older Singers.

Thanks. I am just entering into the vintage SM game so I know very little about what I can use and how universal the accessories and feet are. I know there's a lot of really neat stuff out there and I want to make sure I get the right thing!

Does anyone know if the needle plates for any other Singer machines from the same era also work for the 99k? I'd like to get a plate with m'ment markings, but on ebay I only see marked plates for the 15-88/91 and 201. They look like the same shape and size but they could be totally different IRL. If I can't find a marked plate for my 99k I'll just use Scotch tape with drawn Sharpie lines like I do for anything beyond 5/8" on my modern Viking.
I bought a buttonholer on ebay and it's awesome. My boyfriend and I played around with it yesterday - he usually has no interest in sewing but he loved the buttonholer and playing around with an older machine.
