Any suggestions for needles or stabilizers (Moderated by Pyrose)

Hi: I'm making some denim tote bags for my nieces and was thinking of embroidering their names on them. I've never done machine embroider on denim before. Does anyone have any suggestions about needles? Should I use a denim needle or should I use a larger embroidery needle? Also, any suggestions or tips on how heavy the stabilizer should be? Thanks for your help.

I would find some scraps and test out your embroidery on them. If your denim is heavy enough, you may only need a very light stabilizer, or none. Even spray starch might be enough? Experiment.....

A 14 embroidry needle and a medium tear away stabilizer, has worked well for me.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

thanks. I'll start with that, and if that doesn't work, I'll start experimenting.

I have made a number of embroidered jean baby quilts.
I used old jeans that were in great condition and then used a size 14 needle and medium stabilizer
All worked fine
