fingers crossed (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)
Re: Could this be a FW???? update in my last post!! (posted on 9/15/10 6:27 AM ET)
I was given a description on a sewing machine and friend of a friend has for sale. The friend is in her 50's and the machine was given to her by her aunt about 25 years ago and the aunt had had it forever.
The machine is described as a smallish singer that has a case, it comes out of the case and a drop down side table.
It is missing a cord but has "stuff" with it. Stuff as she said looks like metal torture equipment.
I am waiting for a serial number or picture. For 50 dollars, I am so hoping it could be true.
update in my last post in thread.

Certainly sounds promising.
301s also occasionally came in a case and had a drop down table extension, but $50 is a good price for one of those, too
Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yes, I was thinking 30l too.. its called a longbed when it has that little drop down. not all 30l models did.. But its also a fab machine..

All 301s have a drop down extension. Some are long and some are short. I've never seen one without one.

waiting to here back from the owner is worse than waiting for Christmas morning. my friend who has seen the machine said it is little compared to my free westinghouse and the case looks like an album case. so who knows still like said for 50bucks it will be mine.

Oh drat.. I didn't reread my post.. Too late to edit now.. what I meant to say was not all machines have a longbed.. a drop down bed.. like the 301.. so she could eliminate those models from the possibility of being the machine she is wanting to know about.. I still think its the 30l because of that drop down bed. Not a l5-9l or even one of the other vintage models.. I just have a feeling its the 30l.
Now upon rereading this post.. I am still not sure I am not clear as mud..

If its little, the 30l is small , especially compared to those big machines later on.. Don't know what westinghouse you have.. but the 30l isn't much bigger than the featherweight.. certainly not as big as the 400 series or the rockateer. The l5-9l is also small compared to those..

It's a featherweight.....I can just feel it in my feathertips.......yup, definitely a featherweight......
I would not call the 301 "small" - it may be lightweight, but it's still the BIG sister (or brother)......
Let us know the second you do!

Hope it's a Featherweight! I missed out on a $25 FW listed on CL yesterday. It had already been snatched up within an hour. Oh well, it was described as 'not working' and maybe its insides were totally rotten.
