Hi there,

I would like to make a pet bed, but I cannot find that typical faux wooly fabric anywhere. I just don't know what its called to be able to look for it, so I was hoping someone out there might know. Here is a picture of a sample:

Thanks!

I've seen that called sherpa, shearling and sheepskin (all "faux" or imitation of course) or sometimes just "fleece". There may be other names as well.

Here's an ebay seller I stumbled on, NAYY.

A word of caution about sherpa fleece for pet beds. They are not all created equal. I've purchased several types of it and it tends to shred with a bit of paw scratching. The Joann's sherpa is a waste of money IMO. I now use it only for the inside cushioning along with or instead of batting. I just didn't want to waste it.

I bought some online from Denver Fabrics. It's the heavier duty sherpa and it looks better than the Joann's stuff but it is in no way as hearty as the fabric used in the purchased dog beds. I haven't made a bed/crate pad out of it yet so I can't say about it's durability under paws.

Personally, I find plain old fleece to be much more durable than the sherpa fleece to make dog beds or crate pads. I have 8 dogs that I make beds for and sell them as well.
