flatlock stitch (Moderated by Deepika)
Posted on: 1/15/05 5:51 PM ET
Hello, I was asked to make cheerleader flags which will need to be flatlock stitched. I cannot find my technique book and my owner's manual does not have this stitck. I have an older Benina 4 thread. I know it can be done with 2 or 3 threads but I cannot remember the tension settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you called your Bernina dealer? They may be able to help out with that. I can't tell you what my machine works best on as I have not yet tried to flatlock as of yet ... that is next week's project!

Like Miss Frizzle says "Take chances, make mistakes ..." isn't that what fitting is all about? I am happily taking chances and making mistakes as I fit muslin after muslin ...

Two thread flatlock:
-Use either the left of right needle, set to 2.5 or lower
- unthread the upper looper (be sure to attach your looper converter)
-lower looper at normal tension
Three thread flatlock:
-Use either the left of right needle, tension loosened nearly all the way
-upper looper a little loosened
-lower looper at normal tension or tightened until the loops disappear and form a straight line along the edge of the fabric.
Just run practice pieces until you're happy with the results
