I have the January 2011 issue of Knipmode and would like to try out one of the simplest patterns first. I'd like to make sweater 15--this is only 2 pattern pieces (front/back and sleeve) and a rectangle for the cowl. My problem is that the instructions say to cut out a collar 48 cm long by 77 cm wide. The illustration shows piece A with a line through the middle and being cut on the fold. My question is:
Do I double the 48 x 77 rectangle to create the piece pictured or do I bisect the rectangle? Which way is rectangle A oriented?
Thanks.

cutting layout

the text says:
Knip naar maat: A col 48 cm lang, 74 (77-79-81-84-86-89) cm breed.

Well, if you look at the diagram, the halved width of fabric is only 72-75cm, and Piece A is nowhere near as wide as that. So I'd say that you need to have a rectangle with the finished size of 48x77 (though I always add on seam allowances to the measurements just in case. I think Knip were just trying to make it easy on you by giving you a more convenient layout!
