The first one is in March in Atlanta. It sounds like it would be a fun and informative time. Have any of you ever gone to this event?

I went to the same in Cleveland, Ohio last year and loved it. There is so many vendors. It does seem to be more geared to quilting, but there is alot to offer for apparel sewing. I took classes with Cindy Guffy and Emma Seabroke and some others. It was very informative and lots of fun. I would like to attend this March, but not sure yet if funds will allow. Take lots of money to buy fun things, such as fabric, notions and patterns. I would say attend if you have the opportunity.

I have gone to the one in KC for---oh, probably 10 years. This year I won a sewing machine in the drawing---cool!

My advice is if you are going---know what your interests are, and narrow down the classes you like. I usually only take longer than hour classes, because these teachers are very good, and I need more than a short class to gather the knowledge I need.

There are reviews on most of the teachers in the expo reviews here at PR. Don't take too seriously the negative reports. These teachers aren't making a fortune schellping around the country teaching and carrying their wares. They have a deposit of passion for sewing to give to you in their area of interest.

The vendors are usually very good, and if you are interested in buying a new machine---this is your golden opportunity!! Where else can you simply stroll from dealer to dealer, try out machines, and see what kind of deals they are offering----and they do offer good deals at this time. The money you save in gas alone trying out machines will pay for some of the fabric and notions you are going to buy. And you will buy!! Sew, take a credit card, but go with a budget----with a cushion---that's where you will end up!

Before you go---write out a schedule that includes not only class time, but shopping, eating, and they have stage shows that are free and are as good as some of the hour classes. The schedule will help you get the most out of your experience.

Make sure you take time for the quilt show. Now I am a garment persona; however, the quilts they put on display are breath taking. There are also other displays such as garment and sculptured dolls. You will go home humbled! These artists have more creativity in their little finger than I do in my whole body.

Now I still have kids at home---even at my age---(don't ask! It was an accident! my age that is. ) To spend days alone, or with sewing friends, at an event with sewing people and creative adventures---uninterrupted, having whole continuous thoughts---is---well, HEAVEN!!!!

You must go!!! I hope you have fun! You should also think about coming to PR weekend in Chicago---we are going to have a blast!!

I went to the one in the Chicago area for the first time last year. I went with my daughter (a non-sewer) on Saturday. We browsed the booths and took in all the stage seminars. What a treat! She was happy to be away from the kids and we had concentrated mother/daughter time. How nice is that?

We are definitely going this year in March. I would love to take some classes but am saving my vacation days for the PR Weekend in Chicago. The way things are going with that I think we just shoved Deepika's 2 days into 4 with Thursday and Sunday becoming treat days for food and visiting.

ETA: Maybe I am talking about a different Expo as you say this one starts in Atlanta in March. Will look at ppwk when I get home.

I registered for the Cleveland expo today and signed up for the pattern alteration class with Cindy Guffy on Wednesday (pre-day). What class did you take with her last year, and did you learn lots?

We're going on the bus trip that the Peoria ASG is putting together.

For ASG members, it's $15.00 for the bus, entrance to the expo for 2 days, 3 classes and the bus picks up people from both Peoria and Bloomington, I think. For non-members, it's $45.00 which is still a great deal.

If anyone wants more info, I'll look up the specifics and post more....

You would need to get a hotel room for overnight...or share one with someone on the bus.

The Central Illinois/Peoria ASG is still looking for more people to meet the minimum to take the bus.... No one will get this deal if we don't drum up some more participants... :(
