I've gotten pretty versatile in using my vacuum for tons of different clean up projects. I use it to clean crumbs off my kitchen counter after a particularly messy cooking experiement (following up with a cleaner and sponge of course), get dust and dirt out of cabinets and drawers, dust furniture, clean windows, remove spiderwebs off the ceiling, etc. etc. I cleaned out my fridge a couple of weeks ago and used it to get loose bits of extraeneous stuff off the trays and shelves.

How do you guys use your vacuums?

My dog is terrified of the vacuum. So if I want him to stay out of a room (say, the kitchen, that doesn't have a door), I will set the vacuum cleaner in the doorway.

I do the same thing with my kids!!!

Because if they see the vacuum, they think it's time to clean their rooms ~ so they hide!! It's a GREAT way to get a little quiet/alone time!!!

Mine has become a beautiful piece of art, a sculpture, say. I keep it on display with a little plaque next to it which says, "On permanent loan from the collection of Judge Franksdottir, 2003."

Either that, or it is a science experiment. Rather than worrying about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin, I am trying to find out how many cobwebs can fit on a vacuum cleaner.

47, so far. In case anyone is interested.

I bet I will win the Nobel Prize for this. I can hardly wait.

I have a handheld Oreck to use for cracks & crevices. I can take the 'intake' hose and attach it to the other side where the air blows out, and use it as a (more quiet) leaf blower. I think this is actually a feature of the machine... not as effective as an actual leaf blower, but a LOT less noisy and it works for me!

I also use it to vacuum out the sewing machines, instead of canned air.

If my kid can manage to get her coat INTO the closet (normally it just winds up on the floor) it's an instant coat rack. Nevermind that a foot away in the same closet is an *actual* coat rack.

I use mine to vacuum cat hair off...well, everything! Especially the duvet cover. I have a bagless vacuum so I also clean up stray bits of kitty litter with it (and then I empty the canister immediately afterward).

I use mine to vacuum my stuffed animals when they get dusty. I also take it outside and vacuum the deck.
