I purchased the ruffler foot for the Babylock Imagine serger. When I tried it out, I found that it will not ruffle any fabric other than something as lightweight as satin. I got this foot so I can make a dust ruffle for my bed, which of course will be out of cotton. Any suggestions?

Are you near your dealer? My dealer adjusted my ruffler foot so that the metal piece on the bottom was a greater distance from the bottom of the foot. Makes it a little harder to put on, but it made a big difference in how it ruffled. I let the dealer do the adjustment so that if something went wrong, he would have to give me another foot .

I'm not really close to the dealer. I suppose I'll have to check around to see if there is one nearby and if they can adjust it for me. Thanks so much!

All my dealer did was bend the floppy metal strip further away from the foot.

I'll have to take a look at that. Will it impact the way the machine works when I put the regular foot back on?

No, turn your ruffler over. There is a thin piece of metal. Just bend it a further away from the bottom of the foot. You are only changing the ruffler foot, so it won't impact any other settings.

A light weight fabric will gather really well. Personally, I like the ruffler on my sewing machine better than the serger ruffler. You have more control over it.

Do you think you can acomplish the same thing by increasing the presser foot pressure. Basically, by bending the bottom of the foot you are decreasing the amount of space between the bottom of the presser foot and the feed dogs, right? And by increasing pressure, aren't you doing that too?

I don't know, you could try it, but I think a bigger space means more fabric to grab and therefore tighter gathers.

Oh, bending makes a bigger space...ok, then decreasng the pressure of the presser foot might work. H-m-m-m
