Thanks for all the information on books for beginners. I found The Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing at a second hand shop for $1. It's copywrite 1976.

I have been sewing since 1963 and I still refer to the Reader's Digest book once in awhile.
It's great.
I love the directions for covering foam cushions without the strip. Recently did some for a client's trailerhome and they were perfect.

I also have this book, found it at a thrift store too. Don't forget to check out local library or community book sales, I picked up quite a few vintage sewing books for cheap this way.

try used book sellers online, albris is one used book sellers from all over the country sell through, I got a bunch of sewing books that way most for around $2, Nancy Zieman, Sandra Betzina, Readers digest, Vogue, Fit for real people, and more. If the price is cheap enough you don't mind shipping so much
