Another preshrinking question (Moderated by Sharon1952)

Here's another preshrinking fabric question. I'm quilting the fabric for my son's bedpsread. Not sure what type of batting I'm using, but probably something pretty thin since I don't want it to be too puffy. My question is - should I go ahead and quilt the fabric with the lining and batting and then wash all together? Or should I was the fabric and lining seperately and then quilt?
I'm going to quilt the fabric before cutting since I am using 45" wide fabric and my cut width is about 38", so I don't feel cutting off 7" is worth it....might as welll quilt the whole thing to make it easier and then cut the pieces.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I like the "wrinkly" vintage look of quilts, so I don't wash them until after quilting. The back, batting, and tops all (I assume) shrink in the wash, which gives the look I'm going for.
If you do this though, you need your quilt lines to be pretty close together.
I think anytime you are going to tie a quilt or do a really open pattern you need to prewash.
