I am making something for my dd's teacher for the end of the school year. My daughter had brought home a few things in a tote bag from her teacher & the teacher was very specific in making sure she got it back. Not sure if that means she doesn't have a few totes or that it was something special. I was thinking of making her another and have a design of a adult animal with baby animals around her. The design(s) uses alot of thread. I'd hate to waste so much of it.

Am I taking too much of a gamble to attempt stitching it out on the finished garment but keeping an eye on it as it stitches? My machine doesn't display how it will look at the end. I've stitched out the adult animal & was amazed at how the design was set up, but it stitched ok though.

Does your machine let you stop and change to another color/part of the design? I have the SE-270D, and if I were doing a design like that, I might do a practice run by doing a few stitches of the first color, stopping the machine, switching to the next color/part of the pattern, doing a few stitches, etc. until the pattern was kind of traced out? My machine also does a quick run around the perimeter of the pattern (no stitching) so I can see if I placed it within the hoop parameters.

Sounds like you have already tested the design, so go for it.

Stay at the machine and do not leave it as it is stitching. Walking away almost guarantees a problem.

I don't really make mistakes ... I create "learning opportunities"! Murphy says: The better you match the thread to the fabric, the more likely you will need to rip some stitches out! I spend more quality time with my seamripper than I like ...
Yes, I DO love fabric!!
