Val popped into the chat room this evening ... other Missouri folks, as well as MN folks (who aren't discussing it on Al's thread) let us know you're safe.

I have family in St. Louis and they've had 2 tornadoes come through this spring. The first missed my aunt's house by less than a mile. Everyone's OK though. I don't know anyone in Joplin.

Please pray for Joplin Mo,, I live in Neosho.. about 20 miles S of there,, it is bad,,, bad, bad,,,, 119 dead,, so far,,, 7000 buldings lost,, the main hospital, St Johns,, lost,,, hundreds of offices, drs offices, businesses, and such that were around the hospital,,, ALL GONE. i mean gone,, St Johns is the only building in the area standing,, and there were hundreds of buildings around it,,,

One Wal-mart,, home depot, joann's. residences all gone,,,3 school buildings including the high school, gone.. and more

Joplin was on the nightly news with brian williams tonight,, it showed some of the distruction,, but only a little,, 25-30% of the town was destroyed,, and this is a town of approx 40,000 ... th tornado registered and f3,, but did distruction like an f5,, because it moved so slow,, it was only traveling about 28 mph... the funnel was 3/4 mile wide,, and traveled for 6 miles,, right through town,,,

I'm praying.

I have cousins who live in Joplin and I've not yet heard if they are okay. My mom was going to try to reach their mom to see how they are.

I live just outside St. Louis and the tornado there was bad, but not fatal, thankfully.

We saw this on the news here too. Unreal!

Is this one of the worst tornados ever? None of them are good but I can't recall this much damage and so many people killed or hurt.

Prayers are a given for Joplin along with all the other people we have heard suffering from these terrible storms. Maybe the world really is ending - one town at a time.

Please pray for Joplin Mo,,

I am, and they need everyone's prayers. I saw the devastation on tonight's national news and just cried for them. NBC nightly news said it is the worst death toll from a single tornado since the 1940 or 1950s. It is unbelievable.

The pictures from Joplin are surreal. Paula, I hope you hear from your cousins.

Best wishes to everyone in the tornado area. It's truly awful.

I didn't realize Joplin was as hard hit as it was until I saw the devastation on the news tonight. Just awful! It has been such a horrid spring for so many areas that I'm beginning to dread the summer months ahead.
