I bet this question has been asked many times. I did a search and did not find what I wanted to ask, so I will post the question and wait for an answer.

I have a pair of jeans that have a rise I like. GV Amanda brand, size 16WP. These are petite in the rise as well as length. A lot of other brands are only petite in the length and maybe a little shorter in the rise. They are tilted down in front and I like this very much. They fit at or just barely above my navel.

I measured the jeans from top of the waistband to the crotch seam, and it is 11.5 inches. I then measured the back from the top of the waistband to the crotch seam and it is 17.5 inches. No SA's in these measurements.

I recently made a pair of pants for a class project. I reviewed it on 7/2/11. Those pants have a 4 inch casing to them and the actual pants come up only to my high hips. I thought they were fine until I saw myself in pictures.

I want to make another muslin of this pattern and eliminate the casing, and raise up the waist to my navel in front and higher in back. (it fit pretty good in the legs and butt, so I thought I try the pattern again with changes)

How do I go about doing this? I am just not sure.

So many pants on me start out fitting at my waist and slide down to the high hip. Then I have that "saggy bottom" look that I hate. My jeans do not do this. The pair of twill pants I made do this and I want to correct this this problem in my next muslin.

What do I do?

edited to add: I laid the class altered pattern piece out and put tracing paper over it. Pinned semi altered pattern and tracing paper together and cut them out. I did not trace the pattern and did not realize I had simply cut around it until I was telling my DH about it. Now I need to mark the traced pattern so I will remember what it is and go from there. I think I will add more perfect pattern paper to the waist to raise it up to my desired height (adding seam allowances and fold over for a casing as well). I also need to add more paper to the sides at the waist and hips.

Check out Silhouette Patterns web site and watch the pants fitting webcast.
Peggy does a really good job of explaining how to fit pants.

Ada, thank you for the heads up on Silhouette Patterns for the pants fitting webcast. For some reason I couldn't get to the video on their site (me malfunctioning?) I did find it here:

Thanks again for the information.
