I know a lot of people don't like harming animals and such and was wondering if making handbags and "stuff" out of pure leather is considered acceptable and looked upon favorably? I don't want to make expensive leather bags only to have them not sell because of something like this.

I don't think leather's ever really NOT in. I certainly understand not harming animals to get their skins, but looking at it from the perspective of waste, people are still eating animals and those animals had skins that might as well be used as thrown away. Most of the hides you would probably want to work with are from cow/calf/pig, and they're not going to be leaving the dinner table anytime soon, whether or not that's a good thing in anyone's view.

I just recently saw the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met and it was noted that all the skins he used in his leather collection were from animals slaughtered for food; no animals were specifically killed to provide him with leather. Maybe note something like that in your sales materials, or use recycled skins? I learned to work with leather by using thrift store garments, and I still do a lot that way because it's cheaper than buying new skins and they're well broken in.

Leather in accessories is ALWAYS "in"! And leather in clothing seems to be very popular for the coming season.

Its been decades since I bought a purse that wasn't leather! You definitely don't want to use faux leather if you are going to sell.

I was walking through Nordstrom for their fall preview sale and I saw leather all over the place.
