I've been looking at designer handbags and noticed that a lot of them will have a small little leather patch or something like it in the middle upper part of the front of the bag, usually make of leather or leather like materials, (coated nylon comes to mind) and then they have a nice gold/silver letter that looks like it was stamped..
ideas?
thanks

If you stamp stationery, the powder dusted over wet ink can be gold or silver. It's been a long time but I seem to recall using an iron to melt the powder slightly? (Hold the paper over heat.) A craft or hobby store would carry something you could probably experiment with or even point you in the right direction toward who carries what you are searching for.

There is a machine for that hot foil stamping process.
They are expensive.

I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.

mmm.. wow that is expensive. I'm thinking of just going with hand stamps and a hammer, like you stamps leather the old fashioned way.

I used to live near a bootmaker/repairer who did hot foil stamping. He charged a few dollars (depending on the number of letters) and did a great job.

I worked a machine like that many years ago. We called it a hot press. It was great fun. I know it probably cost a fortune as it belonged to a big business so I don't think this is for the every day sewist. I wouldn't mind having that old machine in my basement!
