I'm making an A-line skirt that's cut on the bias. It's from a book called One Yard Wonders that is chockfull of patterns for a variety of things to make out of simply one yard of fabric. So obviously the skirt will only be a certain length, if it's going to be one yard of fabric. But. . .I want to make it a little longer. Being all legs. . .this would simply not do for me! So I'm wondering "where" is the best place to lengthen? I think not at the hem. . .that's only going to also widen, which is not the goal. At the hip?

Thank you!

I have the book too!
Best bet: cut straight across seamline to seamline, spread the amount of extra length you want, the re-draw the side seams from waist to hem (you'll need a long ruler!!)

Most of my skirt patterns have lengthening lines at the hip. You would cut the pattern at the hip, then scoot the bottom half down until the skirt is the length you want, then reconnect the side seams.

Yay! Thank you both so much! I was "guessing" this was the way to go but didn't want to make a mistake. . . .And I'm not too experienced as far as pattern design or modifications go, yet. So....we'll see how it goes.

Yes, this is a wonderful book, isn't it! That's why I used the word "chockfull." There is enough of a variety for anyone to find something great to make!
