I was wondering if Disney motifs are licensed and can only be embroidered on the Disney machines.

They are licensed. I have a Brother 780D that I got because I wanted to do Disney designs. It comes pre loaded w/several. I have heard that some other Brother machines will do them but I don't think so. Perhaps some one here can verify.

you can do Disney on newer Brother machines even if they are not Disney. BUT you have to buy the designs from iBroidery.com.

There was a thread on here last year about all the machines that will aceept the Disney designs and where exactly to get them. The one exception is "Taste of Disney" which can be used on Brother machines even if they are not programmed to accept Disney designs, such as the 150 PE and others.
Try a search for that and, hopefully, you will find it or someone else will remember just when it was.

Be Careful of Disney designs the can be downloaded from the Internet. These may be counterfeit, especially if the site is in Russia (RU).

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't considered the possibility of designs being counterfit.

There are tons of disney designs on Etsy. Not licensed of course, so they all aren't coming out of China.

I have the Brother 770 and I can download Disney designs from ibroidery.com. These are licensed through Brother but you will have to pay for them - about $7 each depending on the size. Before buying my 770 I looked at the D machines. If you are going to do a LOT of Disney then the price of the 780D is actually a savings versus buying all those designs individually. If you will only be using a few over the years then ibroidery.com is the best place.
