My daughter has asked me if I can fix her cotton spandex tunic. She loaned it to her friend and now the backside is stretch out, mostly around the waistline. I had her try it on and I pinned. If I pinned correctly, I need to reduce the waist by 4 inches total in order to get rid of the wrinkles in the lower back area.

Can anyone give me advice on what to do next? Do I draw a gradual line from the 2 inch point and gradually out? I haven't a clue what I'm doing.l..

Yes, but start a bit above the 2 inch point as well and gradually curve in and then curve out after you hit the 2 inch point. A curved ruler is great for this.

Thanks so much for responding. I just needed reassurance that there wasn't a different method I didn't know about. I do have a curved ruler so I will give it a try.

Have you actually washed it and put it into the clothes dryer to see what happens? I think most times Cotton with spandex in it, has pretty good recovery to it, even before doing that, and if worn a few times and just not washed at all, (why I like Cotton/lycra knit a lot better than just cotton knit for things) but if it just got stretched out somehow by someone a lot larger wearing it, I think when it finally gets wet, goes around the washer ringer a few times, and then even starts to dry in the warm clothes dryer, it would most likley go back to how it used to be just anyways. If not, then I guess you might have to cut it down.

I'm not sure if it's been washed or not; I'll ask my daughter.

You're right, it may very well shrink back. I've already basted the sides and am waiting for her to try it on, but if she hasn't washed it yet I can easily remove the basting and throw it in the wash.

Thanks for that suggestion.
