embroidery machine??? monogramming programs??? (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I'm looking for an embroidery machine to do mostly monogramming and appliques. I spent the morning at three different dealers looking at machines and I think I've narrowed it down to the Brother 1250 innovis or the Babylock Ellure Plus. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? Also, because of what I am wanting to do (I want to be able to utilize many fonts and sizes) does it really have to do with the machine, or is it the program you buy? Any lettering/monogramming program suggestions?

Either brand would be a great embroidery machine.
I have owned and used both brands.
If you are interested in Disney, you may want to take a look at the models listed here.
Both brands use the .pes design format which are readily available.
The machines have built-in fonts that should have the option of small, medium or large.
You can also download from the Internet.
How to save downloads -
(1) Create a folder on your PC and name it accordingly so it can be easily found.
(2) Select designs in the format required by the embroidery machine.
(3) Make sure the size of the design will fit within the embroidery area limited by the embroidery machine - example, if the machine will only stitch out a maximum of 4" x 4", the machine will not accept a design that is larger.
(4) Save the design to the folder you created.
(5) Most downloads are zipped (compressed) for faster download time. This type of file has to be opened/extracted/unzipped before it can be read by the embroidery machine.
(6) After extracting and saving the design from the zipped file, test the saved file. If it stitches out well, then you can delete the zipped file to save folder space.
(7) Some downloads are named with a series of numbers and letters instead of names. You may want to rename them for easy identification.
(8) After accumulating designs of various subjects, you may want to create sub-folders and move the designs accordingly for easy access.
This has very good tutorials. However, I find their designs to be too dense/tight.
You will not be able to see the designs, other than their names without machine embroidery software such as this one. Embird is the most economical brand currently available. You start with the base program and then add as needed. Start with the trial offer.
Best wishes as you enjoy this very rewarding craft.
